Our Story

I had wanted to open a restaurant in my native Killaloe for as long as I can remember. Having travelled the world with rugby and business and eaten in some incredible restaurants I relished the thought of one day having the opportunity to put a twist on some of their famous dishes. Upstairs at Wood & Bell stems from a conversation over dinner in Chicago with Malcolm Bell, on the eve of that magnificent Ireland win over the All Blacks in 2016. Twelve months later we were ready to make that dream into a reality.

We were blessed to hire an amazing young Chef, Paddy Collins, whose father hailed from Killaloe, and come December 2017, we were ready to go.

As Sam Cooke so famously sang, ‘A change is gonna come’ and we at Wood & Bell are no different. Downstairs at Wood & Bell is our new offering, a Coffee and Wine Bar that fulfils the towns need for a nice comfortable meeting place for coffee or a quick lunch during the day, and a very relaxed atmosphere for a glass of wine on a Friday or Saturday evening. We hope to see you here very soon.

We are also delighted to announce the opening of the ‘Venue’, our 60-seater event space at Wood & Bell where we will be staging gigs, while also being home to the Gunas Choir. It is available to rent to groups or for private functions subject to availability.

Thank You for being part of our journey.
